Karina Halle’s The Royals Next Door: Meet-Cute, Spicy Romance & Happy Endings

I was 26 in 2008, stayed up until 4 a.m., and fell headfirst into Forks. Would I love it the same today? Probably not—and that’s okay.
Back in 2008, I picked up Twilight and promptly forgot that alarms and jobs exist. As an adult reader at 26, I didn’t expect to be this feral for a book—but there I was, absolutely glued to the page. Today, my tastes have shifted, and I’d likely read it differently. But nothing changes the truth: this is the book that pulled me back into reading. My forever favorite.
I fell for the tension: the predator who chooses love, the man who could hurt you but won’t. That protective streak? Catnip.
That push–pull of I should stay away vs. I can’t made 4 a.m. a very reasonable bedtime.
Bella wasn’t polished. She was relatable. Small circle, never quite fitting in—hi, same. Watching two imperfect people collide and choose each other was the magic.
The bedroom confession. The alleyway rescue. Pure, uncut swoon.
I’ve pre-ordered the Twilight: Deluxe Collector’s Edition and The Twilight Saga Deluxe Hardcover Collection (both release Sept 30).
Stephenie Meyer announced she’s heading to the Forever Twilight in Forks Festival this September with a free Welcome to Forks Q&A on Thursday the 11th (livestream available) and a book signing on Saturday the 13th (lottery-based).
20 years later, we’re still here, sleeves rolled up, celebrating together. ๐ค
Would I love Twilight the same way today? Probably not. My tastes have grown darker and sharper. Enter J.R. Ward’s upcoming release:
Release: February 17, 2026
Why it fits: A cursed heroine. A brooding mercenary you should run from—who becomes the one who’ll protect her at all costs. That predator-chooses-love energy, leveled up for adult me.
Here’s to 20 years of *Twilight*—nostalgia, late-night reading, swoony heroes, and the stories that keep us coming back. ๐ค
